The Rotary Club of Warragul recently held their Annual Business and Fund-Raising Dinner with guest speakers Mr Allan Klindworth and Ms Victoria Chantra from consulting firm AECOM speaking on “Building Business Resilience”. One hundred Warragul business people, Rotarians and partners were treated to an interesting perspective centered around “How well prepared is your business to respond to more frequent and intense extreme weather events, such as extended periods of heat, bushfires and storms”.
The business dinner was held at the Warragul Country Club where our guests enjoyed a delightful banquet. The club presented a cheque to the CEO and board chair of the Neerim District Soldiers Memorial Hospital which will contribute to the cost of installing a new energy efficient heating equipment which will help the hospital to both reduce costs and environmental impacts.
Every year our club receives many requests for financial assistance. All requests are assessed on their merit and are considered under the following five donation categories; Rotary International Foundation, club international projects, Australian Rotary projects, Warragul Rotary local initiatives and local donation requests.
Upcoming events for the club during May include, a guest speaker on the 7th May talking about volunteering today, this should be great evening and members of the public are invited to attend and should contact the president on 0427 458 560 to make the necessary arrangements for attendance.
On May the 21st the club will meet with the Warragul Scout group at the scout hall in Bowen Street. On 28th May the club, together with many other Gippsland Rotary clubs, will be focusing on the issue of mental health with a local professional in this field as our guest speaker.
At a club meeting in June we will be presenting the “Rotary Excellence in Small Business Awards”. This annual event seeks to recognise small businesses in the Warragul area that demonstrate outstanding service, dedication and commitment to their business or vocation.
Meetings of the Rotary Club of Warragul are usually held at the Warragul Country Club on a Tuesday from 6.00 to 8.00pm with dinner included. Anyone wishing to attend a Rotary meeting should contact club president Ross Dawson to make appropriate arrangements.
